The government is trialling driving test changes in 2015 to make it a better test of the driver’s ability to drive safely on their own.
Learner drivers will continue to take the current driving test unless they agree to take part in the trial.
The trial is being run at around 20 driving test centres around Great Britain.
The Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) will:
- compare the results of people taking the current and trial test
- look at any changes in safe driving within 6 months of learner drivers passing their driving test
- DVSA will then make recommendations and there’ll be a public consultation about them.
Any changes to the driving test will only be made when that’s been done.
